After Church we were talking with a neighbor who's daughter had been invited to Kelton and Ayden's birthday party, but not come. She then cautiously revealed to us the reason why...
At school during this friend apparently (Kelton's side of the story) wouldn't let him go down the slide. She would go down then climb the slide back up and kept laughing at him. This obviously put Kelton over the edge causing him to lose his temper and ultimately hitting her in the stomach and scolding her, "your not my friend anymore."
I was very disappointed to learn that my son had hit someone and even more so that it was a girl. Chris was extremely disappointed in his son, so when he got home from church he walked in, told Kelton to "get out to the car," and that they were going for a drive.
What Kelton did not know until half-way there, was that they were going to pay a visit to the Utah State Prison. Chris wanted Kelton to fully understand that we do not hit girls...EVER! So he took Kelton to see where boys go that hit girls...Kelton was nervous the entire way there and kept asking if Dad was going to "leave him at jail." Chris drove him up to the gates, had him get out and look up to the barbed wire fences, and see the guard's stationed watching the inmates...all the while telling him about what happens to boys who hit girls.
...Well, obviously Chris did not leave him there - much to Kelton's relief. Chris and Kelton cried together on the way home about how much the Lord expects of Kelton and that his Dad loves him so much. "...reproving at times with sharpness, when moved upon by the Holy Ghost, and then showing forth afterwards an increase in love."
Needless to say it was an experience that we are sure Kelton will not soon forget, and he has been doing a better job of not letting his emotions get the best of him.

I love this! Such a powerful teaching moment! We've done this Tyler, but not to the prison, that's a FABULOUS idea and one that is sure to not be easily forgotten! You guys are such great parents! Thanks for your constant example!
Wow! It sounds like he learned his lesson, what good parents you guys are!
What a powerful way to teach an important lesson! Thanks for sharing. We may have to use that idea at some point:).
Oh my gosh- I am laughing my head off right now!! I am so glad i read this blog to hear the continued saga- I love that Chris did that and how cute it is-- i am just sorry we were any part of this dilema. I will teach her not to torment these poor boys on the slide- Love this story!!
What a touching experience. Thank goodness for good dads in the home. They make a world of difference. :)
