Update on Ayden

After speaking to Ayden's cardiologist in regard to his unique situation we learned that due to his abnormal anatomy and the the positioning of his pulmonary veins, he is currently inoperable for the surgery he needs. Dr. Hawkins, his surgeon, did not want to proceed unless we fully understood the risks. The risks involved the potential compression of his pulmonary veins, which would be fatal. We recognize the Lord's hand in Ayden's life, as the two times they have intended on performing the Fontan, events have occured that have prevented them from moving forward.

However, they proposed an AV Fistula, which is a low risk procedure that would still solve the problem of getting him more oxygen and allow his body time to create more room for the Fontan in a few years. This is not intended to be a fix, but merely a temporary solution. He will likely be in surgery for just a few hours followed by a short hospital stay.

They finally got him scheduled for surgery Tuesday November 18th. After getting off the phone with the Nurse Practioner Linda I asked Ayden, "are you ready for your surgery next week"? He replied, "not quite yet".
